**New England Weeds Authority Officially Dissolved**
The New England Weeds Authority (NEWA) has been officially dissolved, as announced in a proclamation on June 4, 2025. The closure of NEWA takes effect today, June 13, 2025.
With the dissolution of NEWA, each Constituent Council will now serve as the Local Control Authority for managing priority and invasive weeds in accordance with the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015. Each council is committed to maintaining the high quality of service that residents have come to expect.
The NEWA team will be transitioning to work within the individual councils, ensuring continuity in biosecurity and weed management efforts.
